We get asked about the Alberta Security Infrastructure Program a lot by churches, synagogues, mosques, and nonprofits around the Edmonton region. Below is a plain-language summary of what the Government of Alberta currently publishes about the program.
Everything here is drawn from the province's own ASIP page. Program rules change, and only the Government of Alberta can tell you how the rules apply to your organization — confirm all of it at alberta.ca before relying on it.
Intake Status in 2026
According to alberta.ca, applications are processed in the order they are received. The province states that grant funding "will remain open based on availability of funds" and that funding "ends once the program's budget is spent."
There is one dated stream. The temporary expansion covering Islamic and Jewish faith-based alternative schools and Arabic bilingual programs accepts applications until December 31, 2026, per the province.
The province lists two separate applications: a cost recovery grant, for reimbursement of expenses incurred after June 1, 2021, and a regular grant covering security assessment, infrastructure and equipment purchases, and related training.
What Changed: Cybersecurity Assessments
The province has updated its guidelines, and states that cybersecurity assessments are not eligible for ASIP funding. Alberta.ca describes the change as keeping funding focused on physical security infrastructure that delivers direct, on-site improvements.
One nuance worth catching: the change is specific to cybersecurity assessments. "Cyber security" still appears on alberta.ca in the education-and-training category, in the list of education initiatives for community members. So the digital side is not gone entirely — but a plan built around a paid cyber assessment would need rethinking.
Published Category Maximums
Alberta.ca lists three funding categories, and states that applicants may apply under one or more:
- Category A — security risk assessment: up to $10,000
- Category B1 — security planning, infrastructure and equipment purchases: up to $25,000
- Category B2 — education and training: up to $10,000
- Category C — immediate security response: up to $10,000, cost reimbursement only, tied to a high-risk hate or bias-motivated incident reported to police
For the schools expansion, the province lists physical patrolling (up to $20,000), security assessments (up to $10,000), security enhancements (up to $25,000), and education and training (up to $10,000), plus recovery of certain costs incurred since October 7, 2023.
These are per-category ceilings published by the province — added together they come to $55,000 under the regular categories and $65,000 under the schools expansion. They are not an amount any organization is entitled to. The Government of Alberta assesses every application and makes all funding decisions.
Who the Province Lists as Not Eligible
Alberta.ca lists the following as not eligible:
- Residential dwellings and individuals
- For-profit organizations
- Daycares
- Municipalities, police services, crown corporations, and publicly funded institutions
- Property under construction or development
