Home security questions, answered

Straight answers for Edmonton-area homeowners comparing installers.

Who installs Ajax security systems near Edmonton?

Loch Security Inc. does. We are an independent, veteran-owned authorized Ajax Systems dealer and installer based in Leduc, Alberta. We design, install, configure and support Ajax wireless alarm systems for homes, condos and acreages across Edmonton, Leduc, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Beaumont, Spruce Grove, Nisku and central Alberta. The same team that quotes your home installs it and supports it afterwards.

What is Ajax, and why do we install it?

Ajax Systems is a professional-grade wireless alarm platform. Hubs and detectors talk to each other over Ajax’s encrypted two-way Jeweller radio protocol, hubs support more than one communication path — Ethernet, Wi-Fi and cellular, depending on the hub model — and carry an internal backup battery so the system keeps running through a power cut. Everything is armed, disarmed and checked from the Ajax app on your phone.

How does a Loch home installation work?

Five steps, the same on every home. 1. A free on-site assessment where we walk the property and agree what needs covering. 2. A written device and camera layout showing every sensor, camera and alarm zone before anything is ordered. 3. An itemized equipment and installation quote you approve before work begins. 4. Installation by the Loch team from Leduc, booked around your schedule. 5. Testing, user setup, a walkthrough of the app, and our direct number for service afterwards.

Do I have to sign a long-term monitoring contract?

No. You buy the equipment and own it outright from day one, and monitoring is optional rather than mandatory. If you want a fully-monitored option, 24/7 professional monitoring is available through our monitoring partner LANVAC’s ULC-listed monitoring centre, cancellable with 30 days’ notice — ask us for a quote.

Are Loch Security’s home cameras NDAA compliant?

Yes. We supply and install NDAA-compliant AI cameras that meet Section 889 of the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act, which prohibits equipment from banned manufacturers such as Hikvision and Dahua. We do not install Hikvision or Dahua hardware in Alberta homes.

Do I need an alarm permit in Edmonton?

Yes, if your home is inside the City of Edmonton. Under the City of Edmonton Alarm Systems Bylaw #10922, the proprietor of a premises with an operating alarm system must hold a valid permit, and the Edmonton Police Service will not respond to an alarm without one unless there is information that a crime or emergency is in progress. As published by the Edmonton Police Service, a new permit application is $30, operating without a valid permit carries a $300 violation ticket, and a residential false alarm is billed at $75. Permits are issued by the Edmonton Police Service, not by Loch Security — but we set your system up to keep false alarms down (correct detector placement away from vents, fireplaces and pets, entry and exit delays that suit how you actually use your doors, and a full arm/disarm walkthrough before we leave), and we tell you what you need to register before we hand the system over. Outside Edmonton, check your own municipality — Leduc, Beaumont, Spruce Grove and other corridor communities each set their own rules.

Is Loch Security veteran-owned?

Yes. Loch Security Inc. was founded by Canadian Armed Forces veterans and is based in Leduc, Alberta. You reach the people who install and maintain your system, not a national call centre.

Own your system outright — sleep easy either way.

Buy your system outright — Ajax starter systems from $520 and NDAA-compliant AI cameras from $180 each — backed by a local team you can actually reach. Prefer a fully-monitored option? Just ask for a quote.
